Sing with Mike!

The Background to the Project

Máiréad Ní Chondúin has 15 years experience teaching music to students of all ages in three continents. She studied musicianship, conducting and teaching methodology for two years at the Kodály Institute. Her fellow students from fourteen countries shared their favourite children's songs with her and many of these appear in Sing with Mike!. Since 1995 she has taught music at the Central Remedial Clinic School. During that time she has devised a whole school programme which enables full access to all the strands of the Primary Music Curriculum to all students. She is frequently invited to train Primary teachers at in-service courses and teacher training colleges.

Archie Simpson is the Music Director of the Lismorahaun Singers, a local community choir featured in a recent RTÉ "Townlands" documentary. He was invited some time ago by Bríd Queally, Principal of Fanore Primary School, to develop the children's voices. Bríd has always fostered a lively interest in music among her students and many of them now sing in the choir.

Jim Armour, who set up Callan Studios in 2001, conceived the Sing with Mike! project in May 2005. He brought the writer, conductor, singers and accompanying musicians together and started recording during the Autumn term. Over the winter, all 48 songs were mixed and engineered and the book was laid-out and produced.
